Technology and design go hand in hand: designers are expected to work within the seemingly linear growth of technology. While it seems boundless, this system holds limitations—who has access to these tools? How can we work with what we already have and how can we excavate the web for our needs?

Through a series of activities, we aimed to subvert the ways we traditionally use online tools, whether it’s building a resume on Google Sheets or defying algorithmic censorship on social media. Together we created a linked network circling between the physical and digital worlds resulting in a hybrid zine.

Set in a Google document, we questioned the boundaries of what can be considered as a design tool. We are interested in free technologies as ways to design. Google Docs was choose specifically because of easy access, no monetary cost, and serves as space where multiple people can gather.
The workshop is guided by a series of prompts aimed to use the Google Docs in a non-traditional way. Although the document served as a home for collections of thoughts and images, the participants are encouraged to leave, gather, and return with their findings.
