“Mutual aid is not only about improving the lives of communities in the present, it is a protest against the individualism that is so prevalent in our capitalist society, and it is a vision for a future where we are able to live freely in cooperation with each other in a world without oppression.”

Mutual Aid 401: Radical Community Love is a collaborative zine made with members of the Wide Awakes (previously known as PVD Community Aid) project from Providence, Rhode Island. Junshuzi hosted a zine-making workshop and designed & illustrated the publication. Members contributed personal narratives, interviews, resources, and research about mutual aid and the weekly free distro that Wide Awakes organizes. At the distro, houseless individuals in Providence are able to eat a homemade meal with coffee, try on donated clothing, grab a bag of toiletries, learn about ongoing resources in RI, and connect with other community members. Wide Awakes has also participated in local movements against police brutality, state-sanctioned houselessness, and more.
